Game Chronicles
For those that missed my Xbox review, Second Sight is the latest telekinetic action-adventure game from Free Radical, the creative team behind the epic TimeSplitters franchise. Second Sight original debuted on the Xbox last September and recently made the transition to the PC. But just how well does this console game make the move to PC, especially considering this is Free Radical's first PC effort? Read on...

Second Sight isn't a perfect game, but is a solid game with an extremely strong story. If you don't mind dealing with wonky controls and not being able to save whenever you want, it's more than worth a look.

Tak, więc mamy do czynienia z produkcją nierówną jakościowo. Świetny pomysł fabuły, nietuzinkowe potraktowanie zagadnień związanych z parapsychologią i jej ewentualnym wykorzystaniem militarnym stworzyło materiał pod intrygującą, pełną zagadek historię.

If you haven't played Second Sight before, because you don't own a game console, you should definitely give this port a go. The game offers one of the most compelling stories of the last few years and using psi-powers adds a nice twist to the action/adventure genre. However, if you do own a console, it's best to look for a PlayStation 2, GameCube or Xbox copy. The camera won't bother you as much then. Nevertheless, Second Sight is a must-have for everyone. It's not amazingly lengthy (shouldn't take you more than an hour or 8, I suppose),but it'll keep you glued to your screen till the bitter end.!

In my opinion, this was the better of the games that involved essentially the same basic storyline and theme, a guy wakes up with some crazy powers he didn't realize he has. What really helped set this game apart from Psi-Ops(which is a very good game mind you), was definitely the way the story was told and the depth at which is was presented from the cut scenes to the great voice acting, it was all top tier. Sadly the one downside about Second Sight is the lack of replay, as I found that after playing through once, I probably had had enough and don't really see a reason to play through it again. That being said, based on the play though that I did and for the price, I Highly Recommend Second Sight.

Worth Playing
This is a fine game. It’s no killer app – it’s no Half-Life 2, and Vattic’s remote moving abilities aren’t nearly as cool as Gordon’s gravity gun. Nonetheless, this one is packed with a solid gameplay, a substantial amount of levels for a lengthy experience, some really, really cool special powers, and a really enjoyable storyline. If you’ve been a fan of any of Free Radical’s work, or are just looking for a good little adventure for a fair price, and somehow missed this when it was released last year - you’re now getting a second chance to give Second Sight a second look.

ActionTrip
Second Sight is a surprisingly enjoyable action game. Even with all its drawbacks it managed to hold my attention and interest with its intriguing plot and versatile gameplay. Only thing is, the game lacks some orange-clad Buddhists with scary wooden poles and an evil glint in their eye. And spoons. Man, I'd love to see some spoons being bent.

I expected great results from Second Sight, I really did. I had read some of the “other” reviews for the game and thought that no matter what anyone said the game still had to be good. In fact, I was thinking the same thing I’m sure most of you have (or should have) when reading a review “That’s just one opinion of the game, it has to be better than that.” This sentiment is the essence of any review, a synopsis of one person’s opinion on a game. You never have to agree with reviews I type up or the reviews of other writers. Take our words with a grain of salt since you have never played the game. Just because a game gets an average/good score doesn’t make it a bad game. But with the case of Second Sight the bar wasn't raised high enough for an incredible game.

While playing Second Sight, the latest entry in the burgeoning trend of mind games, I noticed one thing and pondered another. First, I noticed that I hadn't been so enthralled by the narrative of a supposed "action" game in months. And second, I wondered what took developers so long to incorporate psychic abilities into video games? To be fair, certain games have done it before, but never like this.

You may have thought that games involving the use of psychic abilities are a relatively new concept, coming to the fore with the near-simultaneous release last year of Second Sight and Midway’s Psi-Ops (because we just can’t mention the two apart), but you’d be forgetting about a certain well-known franchise beginning with ‘S’ and ending in ‘tar Wars’. For nearly thirty years an almost exclusively male subset of society has, at least at one point, fantasised about waking up one day with Force Powers of telekinesis and telepathic manipulation. There have been a fair few games offering at least a glimpse at this flight of fancy, the only catch being you have to take the whole sci-fi package with it.

Second Sight is a respectable single-player adventure that shows Free Radical is capable of making more than just first-person shooters. It's got some flaws and it's not very long or replayable--you'll probably finish it in 12 to 15 hours, without much incentive to go back to the beginning--but it's fun while it lasts. Better yet, the game is available on the PC for only $20, which we think is a pretty fair price for a weekend's worth of solid action.

Unfortunately, though, you can’t destroy the game’s camera, which is sometimes sloppy and tends to strand you in corners. The game also has irritating clipping issues. And while we’re talking annoyances, Second Sight is a console port with only one permanent save at the beginning of each level. There are a few checkpoints, but when trying to get across them without error in a single sitting, you may begin to think Second Sight should have been called Fifteenth Sight. It you can tolerate its inconveniences, though, Second Sight is a head trip worth taking.

Second Sight, a third-person action stealth game is brought to us by Codemasters and Free Radical, the team behind the TimeSplitters series of first-person shooters. They’ve changed pace a little with this new game, slowing things down into a sneaky-sneak psychic-power-fest, dropping you over the shoulder of John Vattic, a mystics-debunking doctor dropped into a special forces unit to hunt down a mad scientist run amok. The game opens with Vattic, his body beaten and bloody, waking up in a hospital bed to find that his mind is playing tricks on him.

Second Sight employs the fractured storytelling technique made popular in films like Pulp Fiction. The game opens in an unknown scientific facility, as you escape confinement and harness your new paranormal talents, which include telekinesis, self-healing and psychic attacks. Occasionally, the game jumps back in time to depict the events leading up to your apparent abduction. It's a fun approach to what otherwise would have been a straightforward plot.

Heavily bandaged, groggy and bewildered, you step from the elevator. The cold white floor contrasts with the pinky flesh of your naked torso. A guard, the kind you get in Bond movies and Metal Gear games, immediately greets you. Aiming his gun at your bald, plastered head, he barks orders while you attempt to calm him.

Second Sight is undoubtedly a good game with a wealth of good ideas. From the premise and storytelling (complete with satisfying conclusion), through clever mechanics like a sniper zoom that takes over a corner of the screen rather than the whole thing, and an array of psychic abilities that allow for some unique puzzling, there are plenty of moments that demonstrate the developer's skill and inventiveness. But, sadly, neither of those are traits borne out by the rusty PC mechanics. If you like the sound of Second Sight, make sure you play it on a console. It is possible, we suppose, that you might get on with the PC version, but in truth we just can't see it.
