Overview edit · view history

Established in July 1986, Disk Original Group (DOG) was a Japanese publishing collective created to produce original software for the Famicom Disk System. The venture was headed by Square, and also included Carry Lab, Humming Bird Soft, Micro Cabin, System Sacom, Thinking Rabbit, and XTALSOFT.

There were a total of 11 titles released under the DOG brand, and each partner company released at least one title. However, the venture was not a success for Square due to several factors, including the introduction of higher-capacity ROM cartridges with battery back-up, as well as the debatable quality of the games themselves. The entire project was abandoned by early 1988.

Interestingly, all of the involved companies apart from Square and Carry Lab were also part of another game production collective, Scap Trust.
