Overview edit · view history

Rollingmedia Limited is a UK development studio with Roll7 as its trading name. Most likely it is also part of RDIP Ltd., a company established in 2019. It is owned by Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., which announced the acquisition of the studio on 15th November 2021, as part of its Private Division publishing label.

It was founded on 30th April 2008 by John Ribbins (Creative Direction), Simon Andrew James Bennett (Business / Marketing) and Thomas James Hegarty (Production) who have a background in Education, Music and Creative Multimedia – having founded the pioneering youth education company; RollingSound.

Between 2008-2013, Roll7 worked as a gun-for-hire studio on original IP and marketing projects for a number of clients, including Channel 4, The Home Office, Lloyds Banks and NeuroSky. During this time, the team also created several prototypes.

In 2013, Roll7 pivoted to focus entirely on developing and exploring its own original IP. From a small studio in Deptford in south-east London, the team developed three original titles over three years; OlliOlli, Not a Hero and OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood. With over 75 Awards and Nominations, the OlliOlli series has over 3 million players across 12 platforms and remains Roll7's most successful IP to date.

In 2016, Roll7 moved its operations from a physical office into the cloud and developed a distributed production model, scaling up to over 30 people for the multiplayer title – Laser League.

In 2021, they introduced OlliOlli World; a new direction in the OlliOlli franchise with Take-Two's publishing label Private Division that acquired the studio.

In August 2022 Rollerdrome was released.

The studio's games strife to offer fast action-based gameplay that is described as 'Flow State Gaming' where mechanics and controls are intuitive and refined, but are meant to grow deep requiring a strong focus until players reach the 'zone'; fully immersed in focus and involvement. This is for instance apparent in the quick tricking and comboing in the OlliOlli games, the popping, sliding and shooting in Not a Hero, or weaving through the hypnotic patterns of Laser League.
