Overview edit · view history
Ratloop, Inc. is a development studio established in 1997 in the United States after the success of Malice by the founders (then still called Team Epochalypse and located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands). The company was set up by James Anderson and Sian Yue Tan, together with Lucas Pope and Pete Gonzalez. Its headquarters are located in Houston, Texas.
To handle the growing casual market, Ratloop introduced its Mekada brand in 2000. Games released thus far under this brand name are Gearhead Garage (2000), In The Line of Duty: Firefighter (2000) and F.D.N.Y. Firefighter: American Hero (2002). After a few published titles Ratloop was put on the back burner for a bit and developers such as James Anderson and Sian Yue Tan pursued careers elsewhere.
The company made a return in 2008 when Lucas Pope and Keiko Ishizaka released the small title Mightier. It became a finalist at the IGF 2009 for the Innovation Award.
Earlier that year, in July 2008, Sian Yue Tan applied for a grant with the Media Development Authority of Singapore and set up Ratloop Asia Pte. Ltd., an Asian division of studio, to start full-time work on Rocketbirds: Revolution!, a game he self-funded.
In 2017, James Anderson launched another office Ratloop Games Canada whose games include Vroom Kaboom and Lemnis Gate.
