Marubeni was a product company opened up in 1872 by Chubei Itoh that sold drapery, then eventually entered the wholesale market with textile products. Over the years, the company under went several name changes and merged with other small businesses in a variety of trades beyond the textile industry, affected economically by the first and second world wars as well as the Korean War. While the position of company president was passed down several times, the company would open overseas branches, broaden its produce and do international importing and exporting.
