Overview edit · view history
Evolution Games was a game development studio that was founded in May 1999 and closed its doors in April 2003. It was based in Queensland, Australia and was led by CEO Justin Green. Evolution Games was the public name for the company Evolution Corporation Pty Ltd. Coming from a business background, he established it with his flat mate Sean Hammond. The two other founding members came from the Australian studio Auran. Work on a first project started in June 1999. By September they had created a short web release of their games to attract publishers. These games were Europa, a sci-fi action-adventure, and Spotswood & Eric, a cartoonish action game. By May 2002 the team consisted of 25 people. In the same year the company received the award for Best New Start-Up at the Australian Game Developers Conference (AGDC).
In July 2002 it was announced the company had signed with THQ to publish Nickelodeon: Rocket Power - Beach Bandits. It would be their first and last release. The details that led to the closure of the company were never entirely revealed, but it coincided with THQ, which Evolution had a contract with, setting up its own development studio in Queensland.
