Overview edit · view history
The Image Producers started out as an advertising agency, founded by Bill Moulds in Indiana. Later relocating to Northbrook, Illinois, Bill decided to get into the fledgling software market, and hired Dick Ainsworth and Al Baker as the creative and technical heads for the new software division. Al Baker was also a columnist with Kilobaud magazine in the late 1970's, and is still active in software to this day (see http://www.albaker.com).
One of their first products was Typing Tutor, which was sold/ported for multiple systems in the late 1970's/early 1980's, including Microsoft and Tandy/Radio Shack. Soon, other programmers and designers joined, including Glenn Sogge, Del Ogren, and others.
In early 1980, The Image Producers got chosen as one of the few programming firms to write the very first programs for the yet to be announced TRS-80 Color Computer. After signing NDA's, etc., they started work on designing and programming some of the initial ROM paks around February, 1980, and programming/porting (Typing Tutor being one of the projects) in early spring. Several of their cartridges were available when the TRS-80 Color Computer was first announced in July, 1980. They produced other cartridges over the next few years, until 1983.
Their games publishing division was Image Computer Products, Inc..
