Overview edit · view history

Flashbang Studios, LLC, located in sunny Tempe, AZ, is an independent video game development studio. It was founded in 2003 by Mike Kime, Matthew Wegner, Shane Wegner, and Sean Weilage. The studio's goal is to independently develop video games, to fan the flames of scientific curiosity in gamers with such "historically-accurate" simulations as Off-Road Velociraptor Safari (2008) and Jetpack Brontosaurus (2008). All games by the studio are made with the Unity engine. Prior to those, Splume (2007) was created, a Puzzle Bubble variant, among some other titles aimed at the casual games market.

Minotaur China Shop moved into an equally mythological realm of (2008) and another game released in the same year was Raptor Copter, a loose follow-up to Off-Road Velociraptor Safari, made for the iPhone. In March 2009 Blush was released, where the player controls a squid in the ocean, attacking other sea creatures. Paper Moon, was made available on 1st May 2009. It was the first time the studio collaborated with another developer, for this title Adam Saltsman, and Alec Holowka from Infinite Ammo. Originally created for the Gamma3D competition, it was completely redone by Flashbang.

All games made by the company are tied to their online games platform Blurst, where a single account connects all games and offers achievements as well as global leaderboards, similar to the Steam service. All browser titles were originally made available free to play, but many had a time limit per game session. In September 2009 Flashbang started selling their games, offering downloadable versions of the game, removing the time limit and offering to play offline and in full screen. The original versions are still available and are free to play. The company also sells titles by other studios on its website.
