Dan's first job in the game industry was doing freelance work on the Final Fantasy VII strategy guide at 17, though his first real development job was at Electronic Arts working on Knockout Kings.

After a series of game development companies, he landed at Mythic Entertainment and became entrenched in MMOs. He was the Lead Programmer on Dark Age of Camelot and Lead Client Programmer on Warhammer Online.

After a brief period working on Fallout 3, Dan helped start ZeniMax Online as Technical Director.
