A little idea I had just now. When you enter a too long abstract, the error message is
Abstract cannot be longer than 1000 characters.
It would be nice if the message also told you how many characters the entered abstract has - then you could easier estimate how much editing it needs.

Maybe something like this can be implemented in the text box:

There is also a plugin called 'Word Count Tool' for Firefox, but it might be overkill, it counts alot of things:

Eh, since you already tried to submit and will need to edit anyway, might as well copy it in a text editor that will tell you that. What'd be handy would be to have the count show up right there under/over the text box, and if it's past the limit disable the submit button so you won't waste the time in the first place.
