This list is to help people go to specific store by platform or country without having to search for it, and also because I've no idea how many Sony stores out there and having this list can make it much easier to just go to specific country's store and check if some game has different cover or the same as another country, so I'll start with that, but please, feel free to reply to this thread with all other nintendo, xbox, pc and other stores so there can be a complete list here in a single post.

When no country is mentioned but instead says "Worldwide", it refers that there are no country or language specific covers for that game and same cover is used to represent the game (i.e. GOG) while some change cover and language on it based on language preference (i.e. Steam) even though it's worldwide single release. Some sites like SEN are country specific and have separate releases though they often, but not always, share covers.

You should mention in the list which company should be used as distributor when submitting a game. For example, GOG Limited until November 2017 and since GOG Poland Sp. z o.o.

PC - Humble Store, Distribution company: Humble Bundle, Inc.

    https://www.humblebundle.com/

Mostly a key reseller, but also sells games available to download from their own servers. Those are marked as "DRM-free download", e.g. here. These releases are valid to be added as release info.

    Okay, added your info. Thanks.

Come to think of it, I don't think we ever added Sony as a distributor for PSN releases. And we often bundle same covers from multiple countries or even release infos if publisher and developer is the same. But distributor would always be different. Like Sony Inc. or Sony Japan or Sony GmbH, etc.. I wonder if we'll have to split all those tens of thousands of release infos and covers.

It seems like grouping anything in general is bad on this site because you never know when it will come back to haunt you.

I guess the same goes for Sony, they are always the distributor. Which exact subsidiary would be implicitly covered by the country selected.

Also about GOG, they changed the official name from Good Old Games to GOG.com in 2012, so that entry should be the other way around, if even mentioning the old name at all.

Other perhaps lesser known worldwide PC stores:
    Itch.io: https://itch.io/
    Zoom Platform: https://www.zoom-platform.com/
    Fireflower Games: https://fireflowergames.com/
Indiegala: https://www.indiegala.com/ (Typically Steam reseller, with the exception of the freebies which are portable, just a zip file, not even an installer.)

And now you put Epic as distributor for Fireflower too. The only company name I can find on the Fireflower site is simply Fireflower Games, no entity suffix.

Distributor for itch.io seems to be Itch Corp.

Uncertain about Zoom Platform, see that it says "ZOOM Platform (ZOOM, LLC), Jordan Freeman Group, LLC"

Thanks for the link, I'll test all those country-langauge pair abbreviations on SEN links.

This list is to PlayStation Network store (PSN) which we don't use since they basically just link to Sony Entertainment Network store (SEN) which we use for covers since that's where you actually buy the game. PSN and SEN often have different covers which we no longer accept (just SEN one, not PSN), similar how XBM has three different covers, but we only accept one on product page where the game can be bought.

Thanks for the PS regions link, this'll come very handy indeed. I was looking for something like that :)

    MAT (240988) on 10/23/2020 2:52 AM · Permalink · Report

Okay, added bunch of them to the list. Many of the country selectors didn't yield results on SEN, but most did. Cool, this'll help us all quickly go to specific country's SEN site and check for cover difference. Saudi Arabia seems to have unique covers.

I wonder why we always mix Steam regional covers under single game entry. It almost seems like Steam is worldwide even though covers are sometimes localized.

But I remember back around 2010 I couldn't buy (or even find it on their site) C&C Red Alert 3 add-on on Steam with my region being set to Japan, or something like that. Not sure how they separate stuff per country or region. I don't think they're pretty straight-forward like GOG.com where region or country matters not and all users have access to every game and have same cover.

What do you mean? For which Nintendo platforms? Is it possible to buy digital game for say Switch or 3DS or Wii U from place other than Nintendo eShop? I'm not really familiar with Nintendo digital distribution much, only recently started using eShop for my Switch Lite handheld. I know I can access that store from the device itself or from the computer, but when I buy that game via computer, I still have to go to eShop on my device and access the game for download. Doesn't look like it has other digital shops supported, but like I said, I am really not a Nintendo gamer and have very little knowledge about it.

Should I list defunct ones? I mean, can you still go to their page and get the game covers they used from time when they were selling digital releases?

I don't think there's a point in listing sites that are no longer active. The main purpose of this list is to help people get digital covers or promo images without having to remember all the store names and URLs.

I had no idea they keep Xbox 360 and Xbox One digital releases in separate stores.

So we should no longer just write "download release" if Microsoft has multiple distributors, no?

So Xbox 360 uses Xbox Marketplace, while Xbox One uses Microsoft online store?

I am guessing Xbox Series X will use same store as Xbox One, right?

Edit: Ah, "download release" is fine because each platform only has digital release in a single available store even if they're not the same ones for all Xbox platforms.

Kartridge (https://www.kartridge.com/) by Kongregate Inc. supports Windows and Mac OSX.

Note regarding itch.io: they also support Android games and Browser games (although it's possible they only have free browser games -- I'm not sure).
It's worth noting that there's also games for other (typically older) platforms sold/hosted there, including DOS, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, SNES and Ouya -- although these other platforms are not "supported" by the system and don't have their own categories, icons, etc.
Itch Corp. went by the name moon coop until some time late September 2015.

Game Jolt also has both Android and Browser games, and all 3 major OS:es (Windows/Linux/Mac OSX).

Humble Store also has Android games.

Steam also supports Linux on PC (marked with a SteamOS icon).

I listed it all on this spreadsheet you’ll find here
