A friend of mine wants to expand his gaming horizon and he has just discovered sex games. He wants to know the best hentai dating game that is in english that he could download or play online (you will never be able to buy those games here). I don't know why but I instantly thought of the MobyGames community when he started talking about these games :).

Hentai? In english? Best? None of them. i'm not saying i've tried them, but Sturgeon's Law is strong in this one when you have one of the fandumb keywords in use, being 'anime' and/or 'hentai'.
At best you'll just get creepy .swf files done by otaku-kin that think in that 'anime-style = excuse for lack of anatomical knowledge in art' way ruining the 'experience'. Take out the 'english' keyword here, and you'll get much better stuff. Hope your friend puts up with jpeg-artifacted masked parts.
"The best" would probably just be the usual Illusion games. As for downloading them, that's illegal. You have to buy them.

Yup, I agree with that. FREE hentai dating games in English? I don't think there can be anything good there.
Is this friend of yours interested only in real dating games, or just any hentai game in English? I'll heartily recommend the classic hentai RPGs Cobra MIssion and Knights of Xentar.
But of course, they aren't legally free.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have more detail of what he wants. He just wants a good real (realistic if possible) dating game. It does not need to have any hentai or adult content in it but it doesn't matter if it does. It can also be fan dubbed english.

Hmm, the only dating games without adult content I know are also more than just dating, like Sakura Taisen games. Thousand Arms is a nice one, and it has a pretty good English translation. But it's still primarily an RPG.
I've never been interested in "pure" dating sims, but from what I hear Tokimeki Memorial games are considered very good. Not sure about English patches for those, though.

I don't know much about those... As I said, I'm really not a fan of the dating genre.
Oh, I forgot those pretty interesting adventure/dating games by Elf: Dokyusei and Kakyusei. They have real top-down navigation. And hentai/non-hentai versions.
I heard that Pia Carrot is pretty famous, but I can't say I really liked it. One of the waitresses is seriously hot, though :)

Asking which is the best hentai dating game is basically like asking what's our favorite invasive surgery. There is no good or right answer.
True Love and Cobra Mission are probably the least dignity damaging titles of the genre, so I'm going to second those.
Unfortunately, downloading them is a legal no-no... but if "your friend" gets caught, he can always argue that since time is an illusion, with past and future co-existing with the present, all those copyright laws actually expired before they even existed.

Cobra Mission is not a dating game. You don't "date" girls there, you directly... err... ahem... you know.
It's an RPG, and a pretty interesting one, actually. Dig the urban setting.

He tried Cobra Mission and he hated it, I think that he has lost interest in finding a game now but you can still recommend one if you know any.
And btw I know that every one thinks I am using the "my friend" to hide the fact that I am secretly in to henti games and don't want to admit it, but this is not the case I am just looking for my house mate. I got completely put of henti games after wondering what all the fuss about "Rapelay" so I downloaded it. Yeah, that is enough to put anyone of henti games. I think I'll go to prison here just for looking at that game (don't tell anyone).

Saying that "RapeLay" has put you off hentai games is like saying that Kenny G has put you off jazz.
You should try some good hentai games, not crap like "RapeLay".

Dating games? Don't believe I've every played a hentai dating game. Don't believe I've ever played a dating game either. All of the previous recommendations don't really sound like dating games though.
I think your mate's definition/understanding of a dating game needs be clarified a bit...and if he's aware that the majority of hentai gameplay (non-RPG hentai) consist of continuously clicking various buttons until something nudey pops up. :p

I think my understanding needs to be clarified a bit too, this is a part of the gaming world I know nothing about other then I know they exist. This applies for both for hentai and dating games. I didn't know dating games where viewed as so creepy.

Creepy, no. Well, maybe, after finally accepting the fact that you and every male on the planet is a pervert when no one is looking.
Problem with hentai/adult games is priority confusion. Something Zovni said a long time ago in one of his reviews I think: "I want porn in my porn". Or something like that. If you want a non-adult dating game of sorts there's always the Sims and some 'pink pony wanting to hook up with Ken-kinda game'. Gamers tend to get a tad confused in whether or not they're really looking for a game or wet dream material.
Whether you want to admit it or not, its usually the later.
So, yes. Let's play RapeLay and move on.

I've only played these games on consoles, so I can't say whether they are in English or not (closest to a dating sim game in English on a console is Sakura Wars So Long My Love, which I highly recommend, btw). But my suggestions would be:
Kanon - this game is excellent, tho player interaction is very limited. Think of it as a "choose-your-own adventure" type of game.
Dokyusei - has quite a bit more interaction, as well as being less serious and more humorous. Your goal is to sleep with as many women as possible, and then decide who you want to be with in the end. It plays out over a summer break, I think.
Tokimeki Memorial - is a classic, but I had a hard time playing it. There's a lot to keep track of in the game.
Air - Is another good one. It's also a visual novel, like Kanon, tho so the interaction is again limited.
Can Can Bunny - This one features more player interaction, but it's not strictly a dating sim per se. Rather the player is tasked with seducing women, on the command of an alien.
If your friend is interested in dating sims AND has an interest in anime, I'd recommend checking out ones based on his favorite animes. There's a couple of good Neon Genesis Evangelion ones (I think one of them is called Girlfriend of Steel), Maison Ikkoku, Tenchi Muyo, (basically any harem shows, or any shows that could possibly be made into a date sim probably have been), and also Popotan started life as a dating sim, if I'm not mistaken.

True dating games are made of stuff like LovePlus, boring tamagotchi-like timewasters with NO sexual content in it desgined for the truly pathetic among us. The rest are all hentai games, and that's a broad category but not a genre in itself. They includes all sorts of porno versions of popular gaming genres such as RPGs (hence Cobra Mission) and the more prolific "Visual Novels". You should really consider what you are looking for in a game regardless of wether its a porno or not.
