An analogous situation would be the bbs door game "the pit", which had an ascii-graphics version played through your terminal program, and also its own dedicated graphical client. You can see the differences in the screenshots. Same game, same gameplay, different presentation.

Also, several MUDs have featured customized clients with e.g. graphical maps and such, over the years, and of course there are numerous graphical Nethack frontends. Certainly the is a question with some general applicability.

In this case, I'm inclined to say that it should not get a new entry, though: you can still play with the old client, and (I presume) players using both old and new clients still play together. It's a substantial technical change, but it's clearly still the same game.

In case of Runescape I'd say it is more of a remake of the original, and remakes get separate entries. In the end, I would judge by compatibility with the original browser version.
