Description
Panther is a tank combat simulation game for multiple players played over the PLATO network. The game uses a first person perspective with wireframe graphics later popularized by Battlezone. In the corner of their screen, the tank is shown in a top down view so that the rotation of the turret can be properly judged. Each player controls a tank and is part of one of two teams. Each team has a headquarters that must be destroyed by the other team. Each tank can be destroyed in a single shot and players cannot respawn. Tanks also have limited fuel and can carry mines.
The map is randomly generated, although it always has the same features and distances between the two bases. Players have access to a 2D map showing geographic features. Team mates can communicate with each other using text chat.
