Your farm, a career tutorial showing some of the equipment on the farm. The GPS on the lower left helps navigation - best in daytime.
The full area map; only the green fields are accessible in the start, located near your own farm. You can buy more fields as you earn more money.
This is the default tractor, a Lindner Geotrac 114. It's a 4WD, Perkins Turbodiesel @ 133hp.
You have your own fuel tanks on the farm. The tractor carries 120l fuel, which should last 5-6 times longer than it does in this game.
Backing up to hook up the plow; it is a Lemken Juwel 8V N90. Note the tractor rear lights turn on when in reverse.
The real plow can be towed inline behind the tractor, but this is not implemented ingame, here it can only be lifted for road transport.
On the road to the field. Cars will stop to let you onto the road, and then they will queue up behind you, all the way.
Positioning the tractor and lifted plow on the field. The plow can be flipped to the left or right side of the tractor, without causing sideways drag.
Plowing a straight furrow is not easy, and this is only the first pass.
Coming back, I've flipped the plow to the right side just for fun.
It's getting darker, and I'm almost out of fuel on this 0.6 hectar field, after a days work; and the field is still not completely plowed. Time runs fast in this game.
After a short trip home to refuel, I'm back to finish the plowing of the field, and I have to turn the headlights on to see anything.
Back on the way home, finished at around 01:00. One problem now is finding your way home, as the GPS also goes dark at nighttime, so it is of little use
This is how the map looks like at night, also pretty useless. Since ingame day/night cycle time is relatively fast, you can't make any longer trips without ending up lost in the dark.
It is morning, and after plowing the field, you need to cultivate it in preparation for seeding, so now we attach the cultivator.
The ingame cultivator, Horsch Terrano FX, has no road wheels, so we have to lift it. (Some real cultivator models have wheels and fold up neatly for transport)
Cultivating the field; I cultivated across the plowed furrows so it was easier to see the difference.
After completing 95% of any field task, you can drive home; but I like to finish the job to 100%
After finishing with the cultivator, we park it. From inside the tractor cabin, we can also look to the rear and see the equipment we attach/detach.
We need to buy seeds, but cannot telephone the store for a home delivery, we must drive there...at nightfall. And we don't own a car, only the slow tractor.
Sometimes we get to do jobs for our neighbours, and we get extra pay for that. This will take all day.
After helping our neighbour with plowing & cultivating his field, it's time to seed our own field. Attach and fill the seeder with the wheat I bought.
Here is the wheat I bought at the store. At least they will do home deliveries, but they should really install a phone.
This is the 'home magazine' menu, showing all seeds I have at hand. 340kg in storage plus 860kg in seeder = 1200kg wheat, bought last night.
The seeder is an 'Amazone D9 4000 Super' 4m wide airseeder model, and I'm up early next morning at 07.00 to sow the wheat.
Early birds get the first worms, or seeds in this case. I have not seen any wild birds in the game, so I might not need a scarecrow. I used 300kg on my 0.6 ha field.
My neighbour needs more help, so I get a job to seed his field too. He will pay of course. I may need to refill both fuel and the seeder, depending on his field size.
Finding my neighbours field, it is almost twice the size of mine, 1.08 ha, good I refilled.
Farming makes the equipment dirty, but we can wash it off at our home fuel depot.
Ominious looking evening skies, I wonder if it will rain?
Navigating home from memory, as the GPS is too dark to use. I don't want to end up among those rocks.
Next day the season has changed from early to late spring: Time to spread some manure! Attach the Rauch Axis 30.1 broadcast spreader and spread the fertilizer on the fields.
Magic: the wheat is already sprouting! Season changing is here controlled by the career progressing through the pre-set missions.
Here I made a mistake: the spreader has a very wide spread (12-42 m according to the manufacturer) which I did not notice at first, so half the fertilizer goes to waste on the right.
Now I'm on the way to the bank, this is my 'bonus' tractor, a John Deere Model B. It is almost useless for farming, being weak and slow, but can be used for 'teleporting' through the map.
It got pretty dirty from driving to the bank. Anyway, I'll park it at the bank and use it through the map when I need to go here again. Noone has phones here.
This is the bank, and now we see why they don't have any phones; they are still stuck in medieval times! I got a loan of 250k Euro though, to buy more farming stuff.
Things you can do to expedite time/seasons, get stuck in a ditch or run out of fuel.
I need to get a combine harvester, so I took the John Deere for another trip, the machine shop is too far away from my farm.
You cannot pass! I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of John Deere. And the diesel smoke will make you cough too!
Is it Minas Tirith? Or maybe Minas Morgul? Not sure if we are still in the farming part of the map.
Hey guys, I'm only doing 20km/h here, you are allowed to pass if you wish, no need to honk your horns.
Another round; crops are growing, hens are cackling, ducks are quacking, cows are mooing - where's old McDonald when you need him? Why, at the Machine Store of course!
A Harvester, drool. Combine Defier 180 - the name sounds like it could also be useful in Half-Life 2?
Mine, all mine! Now the header does not fold, so if anyone gets in the way on the road home, they will be cropped. I'll leave the John Deere here for now.
To prepare for the harvesting I need to place a trailer near the field; the one I have at home is the 'Krampe BigBody 460'.
