Tora! Tora! Tora! is a turn-based strategy war game set in the pacific theater during World War II. The game provides full top-down map with all the fleets, squadrons, bases, and cities in the Pacific Ocean for complete overview of the pacific theater of war, while it switches to isometric 3D presentation during turn-based combat. When attacking or being attacked, short cut-scenes will show units on both sides of conflict. The combat can be controlled by the player or left to AI to auto-battle using your units. The conflict takes place on the water, in the air, and on the ground. While on the map screen player can check unit info, set formations, search for enemy units, set movement routes, and so on. Different types of units are useful for different actions, recon planes can spot enemy ships, dive bombers help in sinking opponent's fleet, and infantry is used for beach landing and occupying enemy bases. To add to authenticity of the conflict, the game uses black-and-white photo stills of the actual scenes from the war. The game features about a dozen training missions to let the players master each aspect of the gameplay, campaign which lets player select one of the many available scenarios, and grand campaign. In both single scenarios and full campaign modes the player can select control either U.S. forces or forces of the Empire of the Rising Sun.
