Trek 80
- Trek 80 (1979 on TRS-80)
Description
Trek 80 is a Star Trek variant for the 8080 processor with a VDM-1 (video display module). The player controls the Enterprise and fights Klingon ships. The game is played in real-time. There are hundred quadrants of space to explore. Different from most contemporary variants the game features sound effects. The sound effects are produced by placing an AM radio near the computer to pick up the electronic noise from the computer.
The player receives information with the short and long range scanners which indicate enemy presence, stars, starbases, mines and unknown objects. Phasers, an experimental ray and a limited supply of photon torpedoes and anti-matter pods are at the player's disposal to take care of enemy threats. When the Enterprise takes damage in combat the player can redistribute power to the mechanisms deemed most vital at the time. If everything goes to hell the player can also self destruct.
