Merlin explains the origin of the tales of humankind...
...and their progression to more serious stories, meant to explain the world and meaning of life..
The gates of the ancient city of Uruk, indeed known from some of the oldest preserved tales of humankind.
Very quickly Alfred becomes a criminal according to laws of Uruk...
The third book: "Gargantua and Pantagruel" by François Rabelais. At that point I just sighed over how amazing the graphics are...
The mill in Pantagruel's world.
I knew it! The jaguar is not so dangerous, it's just a cute kitty! ;)
The ancient Mayan city
A wall relief and a closer view at the ominous bloody stairs...
Playing the Mayan ball game. Captain of the winning team was indeed sacrificed and it was considered an honour.
And what will happen to Alfred now?...
A slightly longer story short, the whole sacrifice business (and the immortal twins business) turns out to be a little fishy...
Alfred finally has the tomatoes and can prepare a dish for the divine queen mother Ninsun.
The kitchen in Uruk
Ninsun tries the dish... oh my, I'll have to try it myself, I love cheese and tomatoes.
This time Alfred is in ancient Greece.
The most recent trip Alfred tries to take (to "Around the World in 80 Days") and the only failed one... this book has already been damaged by Oblivion.
This game at times reminds me of "Mixed-Up Fairy Tales"... here Alfred "transplants" Jack's solution to the myth of Bellerofon.
The statue of Athena speaks and (unlike Ninsun, or Thor, or Dante) she doesn't need any explanations.
Now we skip from ancient Greek to Nordic mythology.
Guess who pretends to be the goddess Freyja... ;)
And now the dwarf thinks that Alfred is a transvestite... ;)
The game takes long detours into several tales in order to sort just a few tasks in Uruk. Now all is solved and Alfred is travelling to meet Gilgamesh at the mouth of Tigris and Euphrates...
In the final twist of the tale, Alfred must travel to the Underworld - with Dante Alighieri as his guide, just like Dante was guided by Vergilius...
Meeting Enkidu, the legendary hero and friend to Gilgamesh, in the Underworld.
And here, again, this scene made me cry. Enkidu presents the alternate path to immortality - literature, which can keep people alive for the future even long after their deaths.
