Maken Shao: Demon Sword
Description official descriptions
Maken Shao is an enhanced remake of the "first-person slasher" Maken X.
In the near future, USA and China are the principal powers trying to get total control over the world. A special research laboratory has developed Maken, an ancient weapon that can connect to people's minds and change them. By using Maken's mental powers, the hero can transform into other characters, and it is up to him to decide which side he will join in the conflict.
This version has updated graphics, and switches the perspective to third-person. An additional lower difficulty level was added. Characters can now carry items rather than automatically using them when found. The new "Image Flare System" allows the player to extract skills from images obtained by the various playable characters, further customizing them.

Trivia
Inspiration
The game is heavily on mythological content, as are all Megaten games. "Maken" is based almost exclusively on Chinese mythology. The remake contains much more mythological background information than the original. Myths about Pan Gu, the cosmic human who separated the earth from the sky, and about ba gua (hakke in Japanese pronunciation), the "eight hexagrams" (taken from the classic Chinese book Yi Jing) play a central role in the game. Some myths are freely interpreted or significantly changed, like the myth about tai ji (called Tai Chi in the game), the original matter from which the world was created. In the game, Tai Chi is a person with an own will.
