Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The Nightmare

The Nightmare is the third Challenge Tomb DLC for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It adds Howl of the Monkey Gods as a new challenge tomb available right away from the main menu. The tomb can be completed as a score attack, a time attack or in exploration mode. It is a cooperative tomb that can be completed working together with another human player.

The tomb can also be discovered in a more natural way through the single-player story as the Path of Fear side mission. In the Hidden City Jonah wants to know from Uchu how he got his scars. This leads him to reveal he has been looking for a secret weapon that could prove very useful in the revolution, called White Breath. Lara agrees to attempt to locate it. When she discovers the entrance a native girl surprises her and throws powder in her face, which put her to sleep and into the titular nightmare. Lara revisits different locations from the adventure and her childhood where her fears manifest themselves. They consist largely of action sequences that involve a lot of shooting.

Once completed and having woken up that actual tomb is accessed. It largely consists of a single areas with two pathways on each side and a chasm in the middle. Lara needs do perform platforming and solve puzzles to get to the end. Wind plays an important role with levels enabling temporary platforms. There is also some rhythm and timing to take into account as spikes appear suddenly or giant sticks hammer down.

The rewards are White Breach as a new skill enhancing fear arrows with a hallucinogenic vapour, Grip of Fear as a new axe and the White Knuckle variant after completing the side mission, and the Scales of Q outfit as well as the Feathered Serpent variant after completing the side mission.
