Electranoid is an Arkanoid-style arcade game which features the same basic gameplay as its inspiration, with additional enemies thrown in. Like Arkanoid, the player's objective is to break all the bricks in a level and move on to the next level. Along the way, the player must also contend with enemy fighters like Menacers that launch balls of different colors (and corresponding effects) in an attempt to confuse him/her and Destroyers who will attempt to destroy the player by launching killer balls. But the player can gain an advantage by grabbing power-ups like lasers and multi-balls. In all, a registered user of this game can play up to 100 levels.

Not a particularly good Arkanoid clone.

The Good
Electranoid is a breakout/Arkanoid clone, no doubt about it. It has the Pixel Painters stamp on it, a company whose games I've grown to like. However, truth to be told, Electranoid simply isn't a terribly good game.

What Electranoid does have is fairly good all-around graphics, slick design everywhere and nice "cutscenes" before and after gameplay. The music is also quite good and sound decent.

The Bad
Lack of level design sophistication is what makes this game quite boring, which is unfortunate. Controlling the ball is a little weird, but you get used to it. But what's most annoying about this game are the cutscenes - there's no way to speed them up or turn them off completely, and they take all too much time (it takes about 15 seconds once you die for you to start over. Needless to say, that kind of delay is thoroughly annoying).

The Bottom Line
A pretty mediocre Arkanoid clone. Has some potential, but it's lost.

Since the game is written in Turbo Pascal using Borland' ghastly CRT library, it has to be patched in order to play it on faster machines. Look for "+pascal +crt +patch" or something similar in order to find it.
