The Bermuda Race

Moby ID: 133103

Description

Bermuda Race is a 1 or 2 player regatta simulation for the Apple II.

The objective is to sail an 80 foot 'Maxi' racing sailboat from Newport, Rhode Island to Bermuda, a distance of 635 miles. The goal is to minimize transit time through proper navigation and sailing. At the beginning and end of the race, each move encompasses 15 minutes, otherwise while in transit the player is able to make a course correction every 1 hour.

The game uses a close-up map of the ports of Rhode Island and Bermuda, and an extended map of the Atlantic for navigation. The player must compensate for changing wind directions, and also control their ship's centerboard position. During the voyage, the player can lose sail if they don't compensate for wind, and their bilge pump can malfunction.

Games comes with a detailed guide to nautical navigation.
