Counter-Strike Online 2

aka: 反恐精英 Online2

Description

Counter-Strike Online 2 (abbreviated as CSO2) was an instalment in the Counter-Strike series and the second to be developed exclusively for the Asian gaming market by Nexon Korea under license from Valve. It was a "live service" game that required players to connect to a server hosted by the game's regional publisher in order to play.

Like its predecessor, Counter-Strike Online, Counter-Strike Online 2 was a team-based, tactical first-person shooter that pitted a team of terrorists against a team of counter-terrorists in a series of rounds in which each team was tasked with eliminating the other while also working towards their own objectives. In most game modes, the Terrorists won if they successfully perpetrated an act of terror (i.e. detonating a bomb) or by eliminating all of the Counter-Terrorists, whereas the Counter-Terrorists won by either preventing the act of terror (i.e. defusing the bomb) or eliminating all the Terrorists.

The game ran on a modified version of Valve's Source engine. Compared to previous games in the series, Counter-Strike Online 2 featured enhanced impact physics, a wider array of weapons, and more advanced equipment customization in addition to new and returning environments. It also incorporated MMORPG elements with the addition of a new game mode – “Big City” – in which 64 users could simultaneously play in an urban setting.

Counter-Strike Online 2 was free to play, being monetized via a microtransaction system where players could use real-world money to purchase new items.

On February 22, 2018, Nexon announced that Counter-Strike Online 2 would be discontinued in South Korea following server maintenance on April 26, 2018. The Japanese servers were taken offline on February 28, followed by the Korean servers on April 26 and the Chinese servers on May 18.
