Wanted! Monty Mole
- Wanted! Monty Mole (1984 on Commodore 64)
Description official description
Monty Mole is keen to steal as much coal as he can, and if possible, obtain control of coal production. Once he's got the loot, his job is to escape through the castle.
The Spectrum version plays slightly different compared to its Commodore 64 counterpart. Gameplay is a flick-screen platform affair rather than scrolling, with 21 screens full of challenges. Expect to be confronted by man-eating fish, crushing machines and precision-jumping tasks. All manner of objects can be collected, sometimes by taking a more precarious route through a screen, adding a real puzzle element to the game.

Often terrible, rarely amazing.
The Good
The occasional puzzle is clever.
The Bad
- Most of the puzzles are mechanical in nature and not clever, they offer only frustration and no recompense for solving them.
- You apparently have 3 lives and have to start over and many occasions are trial by error that have to be solved by luck or committing to memory mechanics. You can't apply any skill learn previously, you just surprisingly die by entering a new area for example.
I wouldn't touch this game if I didn't have a save state on my emulator.
The Bottom Line
If you're a games played collector you should def play it, otherwise no.
I would've gave it a 2.5/5 but since I can't I must give it a 2.
