Mars Patrol

Mars Patrol is set in 2062 A.D when contact with the first Martian colony is lost abruptly. After weeks of silence from Mars, an unmanned reconnaissance ship, the Annie Jump Cannon, is sent from Earth to investigate the cause of the disruption. A rover sent to the surface discovers a mechanical nanovirus has infected the colony's defence systems, turning it against the colonists. The only option is to send a rover to find and destroy the source of the virus.

The player takes control of an weapon-armed rover that travels through colonized area of the planet Mars and eliminates enemies. The rover is controlled with the arrow keys. The left and right keys turn the turret clockwise and counter-clockwise. The up arrow moves the rover forward and the down arrow moves rover backwards. The rover has a basic plasma cannon that can be used with F key. The D key is used to drop a mine on the field and the S key is used for special weapons.

The game is split into six different areas and each of them contains five levels. Levels include several hazards; various enemies that differ in terms of speed movement, immunity to certain weapons and health. Levels also differ in terrain layout; there are rocks that cannot be easily destroyed, craters, ice fields making the rover slip and gates that need to be switched. During the game, various bonuses can be collected: supershots that deal more damage, infinite ammo or nukes that destroy all enemies in the vicinity.

The HUD indicates how many lives, ammo, special weapon ammo and mines the rover is equipped with. The tank starts with 3 ammo, 3 mines and 3 lives. A number of them is inherited between levels within a single area. This means that losing all ammo but passing through the first level will trigger the second level with no ammo at the start.

The player is awarded with points for in-game activities; collecting ammo and destroying enemies adds points to the score. The game finishes once the rover loses all lives or defeats the final boss and the final score is revealed.
