Polished and enjoyable, but short

The Good
Machinika Museum is a puzzle game whose gameplay is very similar to "The Room" series -- each puzzle is an alien object you have to fix or activate. Such objects are beautifully rendered, and can be rotated at will; and rotate you will, because tons of switches, buttons and alien puzzles are all around their surfaces. The puzzles are not too hard, but do require good observation skills. There are some creative ideas there -- there are a few recurrent tools which are well designed and fun to use, including an all-purpose screwdriver which I wish existed in real life.

Extra points to the rich sound design -- every action you perform is rewarded with nice clinks, clanks, buzzes, and some wonderfully mechanical "ka-ta-chunk" sounds, reinforcing the physicality of the experience. The music isn't memorable, but supports the mystery mood nicely too.

The Bad
There is a bit of a suitable story behind your actions, which ends with a "to be continued" (but it does not feel too incomplete). Now, while generally the graphics are extremely nice, the very last screen is graphically underwhelming -- the story demanded a much more beautiful and detailed scene there.

Finally, the game is short -- currently there are 9 objects, and the whole thing is over in about 2.5 hours. That said, there is nearly no filler here, which makes for a nice experience all around.

The Bottom Line
Get it if you want a short alien puzzle experience.
