Trivia

Title

The game's final title was chosen by Renegade, as they felt that the working title of Virus Alert sounded too much like a utility. Steve Turner has stated that he never liked the name they forced on him.

At the beginning there was a tank...

Graftgold CEO Steve Turner mentioned in a developer diary series in the german magazine "Amiga Games" 08/1993 that the idea of a tank game came from Jason Page, a developer and musician. He started making the game "Tanky 2" on the Genesis and after he had no time, the project was transfered to Iain Wallington. Ian was the rookie in the team, started on March 1993 and only designed some tracks for Offroad Racer on the Master System. It was his first Major Project and he ported the rough Genesis version to the Amiga. In the diary is mentioned that on Monday 19. April (a typo, because there is written May, but there is no Monday 19. May in 1993 and the next day is 20. April.) he was already working on the machine guns for the tank. He works on a PC and transfers it to the Amiga with a system called SNASM.

In the developer diary in Amiga Games 10/1993 is mentioned that they wanted to change the perspective from bird-view to a isometric view like Chaos Engine. Because of the problem of drawing the tank into a 32x32 sprite with this new perspective, Steve Turner came up with the idea of changing it into a robot. On Wednesday 2. June they decided to kill the tank and started to make a robot out of it, but use so much code as possible.
