Bolo never had the name of the game designer/programmer Jim Lane anywhere in the game or on the packaging because Lane worked at Microsoft at the time.

This game was created based on a license of the sci-fi classic series Bolo: Annals of the Dinochrome Brigade by Keith Laumer. The game Ogre was also based on this license.
