Description
Waterloo is a 1-player strategy wargame for the TRS-80 CoCo.
Based upon the 1815 Battle of Waterloo, the player commands Napoleon's French forces against allied British and Prussian forces. The player individually controls Napoleon, as well as an array of artillery, infantry, cavalry, guards, and skimirshers, each with individual strength, movement points, losses, and abilities. Units automatically engage in combat when adjacent, and artillery can be aimed and fired at distant troops.
French troops gain higher morale and combat prowess when near Napoleon due to his high influence. If Napoleon is lost, the player immediately loses. French units gain combat power when attacking from the north, and to a lesser extent from the east or west. Any units positioned in rough terrain will receive a defensive bonus. Cavalry units can be sent on patrol to view enemy troop movement further up screen, but there is a risk they will not return from their scouting mission.
Two Additional corps can be called in during game play, and the probability of success depends on objectives captured during the expedition. The player can impede enemy troop reinforcements by capturing the objective cities of: Ligny, Nivelles, St. Jean, and finally Waterloo. The goal for decisive victory is to capture Waterloo by day 3 at 6 pm, or within 42 turns. There are 5 levels of game play difficulty.
