Description

Day of Love is a Japanese adult romance visual novel which puts the player in control of a male student named Haruki Tōjō. Haruki has a reputation for being insensitive and uncaring in regard to others, but this insensitivity stems more from laziness than actual malice. Nevertheless, Haruki's flippant attitude unknowingly lands him in trouble when he has a chance encounter with Maho Yoshioka, a girl who he used to be friends with as a child but has since forgotten. Maho has made a bet with her older sister Michiru as to whether Haruki will remember Maho: if he does remember her, Maho wins, but if he does not remember her, Maho has to cross-dress as a male student while attending Haruki's school for a month. Upon realizing that Haruki has forgotten her, Maho becomes enraged and silently swears revenge. She agrees to abide by the conditions of the bet and attends Haruki's school disguised as "Mao Hiiragi", intending to make Haruki's life hell, but little does she know that feelings might just get in her way.

Like most visual novels, the gameplay revolves around reading through the story, interacting with characters, and periodically making decisions that may influence the direction of the plot. Although Maho is the main heroine, the player may also pursue other characters, including Michiru, Isami Anayama (the president of the drama club), Ayano Kazakiri (the school nurse), Nanaka Sayagusa (the mischievous daughter of a wealthy local family), and Yayoi Mutō (a clumsy girl who tries to keep Nanaka out of trouble).

In the Japanese Windows, DVD Player, & OOParts versions of the game, titled Koiyōbi, Mao Hiiragi is Maho's younger brother rather than just an alias. He is an introvert whom Maho was able to successfully pose as due to the fact that he does not attend school and rarely leaves the home due to possessing a heart condition. He also has a route in which he can be romanced like the female characters. The PS1 version, titled Koiyohō, retains Mao but omits any sexual content. In the English DVD Player version, titled Day of Love, Mao and his route were removed, as were any scenes depicting sexual encounters between Haruki and any of the heroines.
