Super Bunny

Moby ID: 20735

Description

A simple action game where the player is a rabbit who must cross the screen initially from left to right avoiding the various nasty critters in their way.

When the player reaches the right hand side of the screen their goal is to claim the carrot that is being dangled in front of them. If they get the carrot they are transformed into Super Bunny and must begin their journey back across the screen. In this super powered form the player can take revenge and defeat the critters standing in their way.

Super Bunny is similar to "cross the road" games such as the arcade game Frogger and Activision's Freeway.

The original box came with a complete "Super Bunny" comic book written and illustrated by air-brush artist Martin Cannon, staff artist at Datamost.

Style over substance

The Good
When I was a young kid my brother found this game in a discount pile and we chipped in our meager funds to purchase it. The box had nice cover art and showed some excellent screenshot artwork. The game itself featured an animated intro (a rarity at the time) and full screen graphical scrolling credits. Although the Commodore 64 port we had purchased was obviously a direct port from the Apple 2 version, the detail in the graphic introduction was still excellent despite lacking in color.

The Bad
Once you got past the introduction animation and graphics, the gameplay was terrible. It seems as though most of the effort was put into the introduction graphics and the game itself was an afterthought.

The Bottom Line
This game is a very basic "cross the road" style of game. Similar to other games such as Frogger, Freeway and Spy's Demise, you guide your character across the screen to get to the other side. In Super Bunny, you are a defenseless rabbit and must get to the super carrots on the other side of the screen. In your way are rows of "elevators", many of which are populated by nasty parasites which will kill you. In truth the real trouble is lining up your jumps on the elevators. If you are a pixel off, you will be sent back to the start. If you do reach the carrots on the other side, you are transformed into Super Bunny. Now you can cross the elevators on your way back and defeat any parasites that you jump onto.
