Description

Death Mines of Sirus is a combination arcade and text adventure for the Dragon 32/64.

The year is 2112, and the planet has been fighting the intergalactic wars for the past 70 years. Strontium 98, a rocket fuel vital for the war effort, is mined from the moons of Sirus, a star system discovered in the 21st Century. Originally the Humans had good relations with the Siruns, but it appears the Siruns are now negotiating with the enemies of Earth. The player has been selected to assist Captain Phoenix as he attempts to confirm or refute these reports.

The game is divided into two parts. First is an arcade component where the player controls a landing ship, and must safely land on the four landing pads on each screen while avoiding asteroids that move horizontally across the screen. After doing this, the player must return to the waiting command ship located at the top. The player must achieve a sufficiently high score to obtain the passcode for the text adventure.

In the first part of the text adventure component, the player's ship has been invaded by a deadly fungus. The player must seek help to defeat the invading fungus. All commands are via multiple choice, and the player must proceed through the adventure by choosing the correct gameplay options.

In the second part, the player has now entered the base on the surface of Sirus. In this sequence the player moves a small dot representing their character around schematic pictures of the base. The player can enter a number of different rooms, where they can interact with items and consoles.
