Playable, but needs work. A lot of work!

The Good
Yikes, since for now I'm the only bloke that contributed a Mobyscore, that 2.4 rating sure looks bad. But honestly, the game isn't that bad.

I really need to get my hands on more games like this, where you can place traps around and wait for the enemy to walk upon it and "wham!", they get their head chopped off (unfortunately, the head bouncing off isn't available in the game's visual effects, although it does state that on "cause of death" on the enemies rap sheet.

Unlike other trap games I've had the luck to come across, in Trapt, setting the traps off need your active participation. Which is to my opinion somewhat fun to a certain extent. You have to lure your enemies to follow you and when they are on top of the trap, you "activate" the traps with your unique dark powers. If you activate the traps in a certain sequence, you get combo hits which I think means you get more money...since the more combo's I got, the more money I got too, so I think that's true.

Unlike other trap games though, you can only have access to 3 active traps, which is kind of a bummer, but considering the game play of the game, 3 traps makes you extremely powerful...maybe a little too powerful.

The 3 traps are ceiling traps (up), wall traps (uh, walls) and floor traps (low). So it game really takes advantage of 3 dimensional game play. You can't however put 2 traps on the same tile, though this is only for ceiling and floor traps, as well as traps already located in a room. Yes, there are also other traps which are already part of a room, but it somewhat is a hassle to activate them.

The Bad

  • Graphics
Poor developers. Someone was obviously under-budgeted...see the release info? November 2005. The game graphics however are equivalent to Playstation games released way before 2003...and that's really bad considering Playstation games are usually more "graphic game-based" Normally I wouldn't care less about game graphics as long as it doesn't effect the game play, but unfortunately in this game it kinda does.

The graphics aren't terrible, but they are severly outdated and the color is very gloomy. Around 80% of the coloring of the game is very black-grey-dark, you get the picture.. It's somewhat similar to the game Silent Hill...and what year was that game released? Yikes, just checked - 1999. O.K. maybe the graphics are REALLY BAD then. Poor developers.

  • Gameplay
Well, when you finally figure out how the traps work it's really fun to see those traps clobber the unwary enemies. It's even more fun when you figure out how the combo system works. Splat! Whack! Boom! (unfortunately the sound wasn't as good, but adequate enough). Yes, it's fun. The thing is, I got through half of the game and I'm still using the same 3 traps I used at the beginning of the game. Let's say I've just killed 20 blokes or more with the same strategy. Well, that technically says "bye-bye" to strategy. Seriously, I really use the same type of style. Any updates on the traps don't really make much difference. That's what really made me bored. You don't appreciate killing the same dudes over-and-over again the same style. Imagine going out with a girl to the same restaurant for 20 times in a row. Either that's a really dang good restaurant or that girl really likes dull people.
  • Acting
Well most people probably woudn't notice or would care less, but your heroine here just viciously butchered more than 20 people and she acts like she'll faint at the sight of blood. The way people die here makes Dracula look like a pussy cat. But she acts always like a innocent-like girl who's never been winked by a boy. Seriously, killing of 20 people or so should do wonders to ones mental position.
  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) and a little more...
Somewhat in correlation with game play. The AI in this game is quite terrible actually. As the game play consists of your luring or making the enemy follow you, the thing is they always follow you no matter what. Which is nice really, but referring to repetitive game play, after going out to the same restaurant 20 times with your girl friend, you always discuss the same boring topic 20 times. Ah, isn't life colorful? Not in this game apparently.
  • Camera viewpoint
Another game that has camera bugs. Since the game requires active participation by your part to trigger traps, it is essential, no crucial that you know exactly when the enemy is within range of a trap. In most cases it's usually easy, but there are some angles in the game where you have to "guess", which is kind of a bummer especially when you miss. Honestly, it would be better if this game had a top-down perspective like in old games, since you can see yourself, the enemy and the traps quite nicely. But that would kind of kill the "graphical enjoyment" of the already mediocre graphics, eh? There are some instances where this camera viewpoint get right dang irritating...where your running from the enemy and you can't seem to run from the bloke and see your traps at the same time. ---- Summing that up, the game seriously loses it's punch the longer you play. Lousy graphics, mediocre storyline, repetitive game play should pretty much stop any further damage on your gaming experience. Maybe the sequel would fair better...if the developers get a better deal this time that is...

    **The Bottom Line**
Better wait for the sequel if they're planning to make one...

Amazing game if only too behind the times

    The Good
The gameplay I loved, it was real straightforward, gentle learning curve, and just a blast to play, even if at times the AI was a little pathetic at times, but it was still fun and challenging, if the only challenge was challenging yourself.

    The Bad
Graphics were a little upsetting, but I can forgive it due to the great gameplay that I've yet to find anything else similar to.

    The Bottom Line
I really can't describe it to others, it's one of a kind, Deception is a very special kind of game, and with multiple endings and a plethora of traps, replay value is always there. It's been 3 year since I beat that game, and even after playing EVERY major game of this year, I could still go back and play Trapt for at least a few hours.
