Controversy

There was some controversy surrounding a bad review of game from Gamespot, namely due to the fact that the reviewer, editorial director Jeff Gerstmann, was fired shortly afterwards.

It was believed by many that his dismissal may have been a result from external pressure from Eidos Interactive, as he gave Kane & Lynch an unfavourable review, while there was a large amount of advertisements for the game on the site. Both Gamespot and its parent company CNET, however, stated that this was not the case and the termination of his employment was for reasons unrelated. A 2012 interview did confirm that his dismissal was due to the new management team being at odds with the site's reviewers, as lower review scores would result in less ad revenue.

The game was sold in over 1.5 million copies by 2009.
