Buckle up!

Anyone who's ever been at the mercy of a crazed cabby will appreciate Sega's white-knuckle driving game. Brought to Nintendo GameCube by Acclaim, Crazy Taxi challenges you to hop behind the wheel and get your fare from point A to point B as quickly as cabbily possible. If you happen to bend a few traffic laws along the way, so be it.

Crazy Taxi features four cabbies to choose from and two huge environments to explore. Working against a time limit, you have to pick up as many riders as possible and take them wherever they want to go. The faster you reach your destination, the more money you'll be able to make before your shift is up. The fun part of this game is driving like there's no tomorrow to reach your goal.

You'll have to find creative shortcuts -- like driving through public parks and underwater -- to earn a good tip. Take too long to complete your trip, and your fare will hop right out of the cab. Ultra-tight steering doesn't exactly feel realistic, but it's perfectly suited to the wild gameplay. Humorous voice samples and a rockin' soundtrack by The Offspring and Bad Religion provide for an excellent audio package.

Even though Crazy Taxi features 16 mini-games, the game offers questionable replay value. It's undeniably fun to barrel through a crosswalk in order shave a few seconds from your time, but you can only drive from Kentucky Fried Chicken to the mall so many times before you begin to feel like a real cabby putting in a nine to five.

We have to give Crazy Taxi credit, though, for being the first game in a brand new genre -- and a fun one at that.

Game progress is saved to a Nintendo GameCube Memory Card 59.
