4 Minutes and 33 Seconds of Uniqueness

Moby ID: 39240

Description

4 Minutes and 33 Seconds of Uniqueness is a game created for the Global Game Jam that tests the boundaries of what defines a game. If the program runs for four minutes and 33 seconds—no further user input is needed—the player wins. The catch is that it must be the only copy running in the entire world at that time—the program checks over the Internet to see if anyone else is running the game, and if someone is, the program will immediately shut itself down. The only graphics are a white progress bar that inches across the screen as time passes.

Clever interpretation

The Good
The author actually gets the meaning behind the intention of John Cage

The Bad
Can't say anything bad about it!

The Bottom Line
You should probably play it on a lazy Sunday afternoon. In a completely silent environment.

Trivia

Inspiration

The game is inspired by John Cage's musical composition 4′33", which is 4 minutes and 33 seconds of complete silence. The uniqueness of the piece is established through the background sounds in the environment, which makes the experience different for each listener.
