Judith
Description
Just like Pathways, Judith is an experiment in storytelling about secrets and control, through a world shown from a first-person perspective and graphics from the era of Wolfenstein 3D. With parallels to the classic story of Bluebeard, it tells the tale of Jeff and Emily, married, but not to each other, who meet secretly in an abandoned building. As soon as they enter the building, Emily disappears and the player needs to guide Jeff to find her back.
The game is divided into two different stories, and the parts are played alternately, along with a third storyline presented as a dream. As the player discovers the different rooms, parallels between the three stories, past and present, become apparent. To show what character is controlled and talking, the colour of the text lines is changed. There are minor puzzles to solve, but the game is very straightforward. At times, control is taken over for in-game cutscenes, usually to further the story. The character is moved through the arrow keys with the space bar for all actions.
