Knights of the Chalice
Description official description
Knights of the Chalice is a turn-based old style RPG similar to the Dark Sun series of games. The game uses slightly modified D&D 3.5E rules, but relies heavily on D&D monsters, artifacts and spells. The player controls a group of 4 characters of up to three different professions (Knight, Cleric and Wizard) and three different races (Human, Half-elf and Half-dwarf), who are tasked with exploring and battling in over twelve multi-layered towns, towers and dungeons.
The game itself is mostly centered around turn-based tactical combat and dungeon exploration (including searching for secret doors, evading patrols and more), however it also offers many conversations which can provide different routes to solving quests or escaping a tight situation. The game's best feature is the ability to forge, enchant and upgrade weapons and equipment. This means that unlike many other games, the player here can re-module (or even create from scratch) his/hers looted or purchased items to better fit the challenges facing them or their particular game style. True to its D&D origin, the game has two distinct spell systems - divine one, healing oriented and usable by Clerics and an arcane one, attack oriented and usable by Wizard.
Knights of the Chalice is the first game by the indie team from HeroicFantasyGames.com. It runs in a retro 320x240 resolution in a windowed or full-screen mode. The game was developed for Windows XP, but runs on later versions (Vista, Win7). While it has no voice acting, it does have atmospheric music which changes depending on which city/dungeon the party is exploring and can change within the city/dungeon.
