After an introductory cut scene intro the player is presented with the game's main menu. This 'Collectors Edition' installs as version 1.0
This is the Advanced Graphics control menu. There are separate sub menus for customising Graphics, Sound and the Controls.
Artwork like this is displayed as the game loads tutorials, campaigns & skirmishes etc
There are five tutorials. This is a scene from the Interactive tutorial which covers basic controls. The other tutorials are Basic & Advanced Economy and Basic & Advanced Military
A close up of a peasant waiting for something to do
Of the five tutorials only the first is interactive. The remaining four consist of small panes of information over an animated background. This is ffrom the basic economic tutorial
The start of a campaign. The map is roughly based on Europe
The player always seems to be the blue team. Here at the start of a campaign the big hint is to strike fast
The blue soldiers have arrived at the red teams stronghold. There's no-one home because they're out attacking the yellow team
The game has an AI General editor. This allows the player to create a tougher, or easier, AI opponent
There are five classes of soldier, light & heavy infantry, light & heavy cavalry and siege weapons which are shown in this shot from a tutorial
Here light infantry is defeating heavy infantry by taking advantage of the terrain. When on almost level ground they are not too effective but give them a height advantage and they are deadly
This shot shows the supply wagons attached to each unit. Without these the units will run out of arrows so they must be protected.
