Title screen (CGA)
Introduction text (CGA)
Union troops are blue, Confederate are red; it's extremely difficult to see details in CGA mode.
Title screen (EGA)
Introduction text (EGA)
The battle screen. (EGA) Here are much better details, the generals ride horses, and hold little flags, either horizontally striped (Union) or diagonally crossed (Confederate)
Armies are block-shaped, with their individual commanders on horseback. Dark & light blue for Union troops, black & grey for Confederates. The troops shown here are mainly footsoldiers.
Union and Condererate troops closing. Note the artillery group at center bottom. Firing a gun shows a simulated smokepuff, no sound is implemented in the PC version.
Here are some rebel cavalry regiments, and also mounted artillery with some of them. The horses are indicated by the white bottom segment on the troops block.
Confederates attacking Cemetary Hill.
Downtown Gettysburgh, here in Confederate hands.
Evening brings darker colors to the scene. Union and Rebel troops alternate being broken and rallied, as the battle continues.
Night time, colors change again, one can barely make out the troops against the ground, but using the mouse you can identify them by clicking on a block or landmark.
Midnight, time to go to bed? Nope, fight on. Not so successful if you can't see the enemy.
Attack and counter-attack, no rest for the weary soldiers.
Morning has broken...or is going to, the light is changeing. Lee gets a report from the midnights battle. It's now three hours after the battle took place.
The ordered locations are given with names for individual houses/farms. (Names are found out by clicking on the buildings).
Go pickup some pens at the college, I hear they are mightier than swords.
Both Union and Confederate troops and artillery are pounding each other for the control of this hill.
The Union troops are moving in on Gettysburg. The Confederates are mainly off to the North by now, with a few stragglers over the Potomac river eastward.
Lee and Stuart...lots of cavalry, but where are their tank namesakes when you need them? Ok, I'd have to wait some 80 years for that reinforcement to arrive.
After-action assessment: Lee scored 387 pts vs. Meade 775 pts, making it a Union victory. This battle was based on computer vs computer playing according to historical orders.
