Mud and Blood 2

Description

Mud and Blood 2 is a real-time tactical level strategy game. The player takes command of a squad of American soldiers during World War II (operation Lüttich, August 1944), who will face endless waves of German troops.

Your men are characterized by their skill (which they increase as they kill enemies), health, speed and morale. Various specialists are available, from medics (healing wounded companions), through camouflaged snipers, French Resistance fighters, signalers (calling air/naval support), engineers (building bunkers, trenches, sandbag walls, laying mines), heavy gunners, to officers rallying troops. You may equip them with better guns and grenades. Apart from soldiers the player may deploy both stationary and mobile guns and armor, including 50 caliber HMG emplacements, jeeps, APCs, and tanks. Unit deployment and special actions cost precious Tactical Points, awarded after each survived enemy wave or special action (officer effects, crates, ribbons etc).

German forces are more than a match to yours, not only in terms of quantity: expect anything from saboteurs, through Volkssturm, flamethrowers to armored self-propelled artillery.

With each played game, the player has a chance to gain rank and awards (ribbons, medals), which later translate to benefits granted to subsequent matches, unlocking new options.

The game is true to its creator's motto: "unfair random brutality" - not only the battlefields are randomized, but also the composition of your and enemy squads etc. That supply drop rescued from the Germans at a great cost may contain just berets...

Masochist? This ones for you!

The Good
It's not repetitive. Every game is different. It can be good, and it can be bad. Very bad. It is very random, from one enemy per wave to 7 + Tanks and armor, it's just insane.

If you analyze it though, you'll soon find out you can't win. Because no matter what, the AI will just pull you down and crush you. Looks like the only thing you can win is bragging rights. You lasted 400 waves? Good for you! Now rub it in on the newbies!

It's also fun collecting all those ribbons and medals. For all the Golums out there, this could be your precious. :)

It's realistic, but NOT TOO realistic.

The Bad
Sometimes you'll just get squashed like a bug. A 10 wave game usually happens to some unlucky guy somewhere (which includes me).

Much of it is luck based. Although good strategies and quick thinking are key, you're most important weapon here is luck. You might just be lucky that you start with an awesome squad with 40+ rifle skill, or you can start out with puny little kids.

The Bottom Line
It's a really enjoyable game, if you ask me. Already burned many hours playing it. It's really quite simple, but it gets it done. It gets it done good.

Good Luck Have Fun everybody.
