Excellently showcased what a computer could offer a gamer over a board game

The Good
The game balance encouraged the type of strategies that would have been used in the actual battle. The fog of war was phenomenal. I played against a college professor and no two of our games were the same and we each had many wins with both sides. The units each had the strengths and weaknesses from the war allowing much experimental reenactment while not allowing crazy strategy that would only work in a game. The manual had actual detail for each of the armies. The ability to turn game features off is as good as any game I have planed, then or now. And it didn't crash. Strategy games of the time often crashed or glitched wasting hours of play. The graphics were good for the time. The simple rectangle units gave perfect facing information that was very important in the game. Both facing and fog of war in this game raised it above the other gaming of the time.

The Bad
I have to say it: That I don't own it. For me, this is the one that got away. I always planned to buy it some day.

The time moves took. As the battle heated up the turns started to take an hour or two, sometimes more. Still I wouldn't have traded any of it's capabilities for shorter turns. We would turn off fog of war if we needed to finish in a day. We once turned off more things to finish in a few hours but the result wasn't worth it.

The Bottom Line
An excellent game reenacting the Civil War Battle of Chickamauga. The balanced game play and attention to historical detail allows much experimentation to explore what if scenarios of the real battle. Total fun if you have a couple days to play a game.
