Description

The Donkame Courier Company is in big trouble! Nearly all of its employees have quit or been hospitalized by members of the Jakuniku Transport Company, an evil delivery company bent on world domination run by the ambiguously-foreign businessman/cult leader Jack Nick. Jirō, an experimental enhanced humanoid developed by Jakuniku to be the ultimate deliveryman, has rejected their goals and has defected to Donkame, where he is determined to deliver to his customers in the name of love, justice, and low prices! But Jack Nick is not about to let him go, and will stop at nothing to crush Donkame and force Jirō back under his control.

Honō no Takuhaibin ("Blazing Express Delivery") is an action delivery game where the player, as Jirō, must deliver packages within a time limit, while at the same time defeating or avoiding various enemies. Jirō has access to both a hand cart and a van, which he can switch between at will, though the van cannot enter certain areas. Defeating enemies and completing deliveries will earn Delivery Spirit, which can be used to launch special attacks and boost Jirō's speed.

The game is divided in to chapters, which are further divided into days, each of which comprises one stage in the game. Each day can be tackled on one of three difficulty levels, and has a set number of packages that must be delivered. Additional bonus deliveries may appear during the stage, and some days will include boss fights that must be defeated before the final delivery can be made. The story is told through fully-voiced cut scenes made from sparsely-animated stills, which play at the beginning and end of each day.

Between stages, the player can use points earned on previous days to purchase upgrades for their van, including new engines, tires, and even frames. There are also a large number of hidden packages strewn about the city, which each unlock a bonus item in the menu when collected.
