Description

Computer EastFront is an adaptation of the board game EastFront. It is a hex based wargame that simulates the Eastern Front of World War II from 1941 to 1945.

There are three different game modes. Interactive mode allows two players to compete over a modem to modem or Internet connection, PBEM mode generates move files that can be sent over e-mail and the solitaire mode allows one player to take control of both sides in the conflict. The game does not have an option for playing against the computer.

Both Germany and Soviet are playable and it's possible to play either the whole campaign in one go or one of the shorter scenarios. Each scenario is divided into six monthly turns, each consisting of a production phase and two play turns. The player with the highest amount of victory points at the end of a scenario wins. It's calculated from production levels, defeated units and number of HQ steps in play.

There are six types of units (armor, mechanized, infantry, cavalry, shock and headquarters) and each has its own movement rate and firepower rating. The strength for each unit is shown as a combat value which may be lost in combat or increased by production. Headquarters are used to mobilize friendly forces and when activated they allow movement for those units that are within its command range. By taking control of economic objectives the player earns production points which are used to rebuild destroyed units.
