Lock On: Platinum
Description
Lock On: Platinum is an air combat aircraft simulator bundle which is made up of two earlier releases:
- Lock On: Modern Air Combat (core simulator)
- Lock-On: Flaming Cliffs 2 (add-on)
This release will connect with the DCS: Black Shark helicopter simulator to provide an online multiplayer battle environment.
Simulator pilots can choose to fly eight different aircraft and operate their accompanying main weapon load outs to carry out the almost 100 campaign and mission, and custom missions:
- A-10A Warthog
- F-15C Eagle
- MiG-29A Fulcrum
- MiG-29C Improved Fulcrum
- Su-25 Frogfoot
- Su-25T Improved Frogfoot
- Su-27 Flanker
- Su-33 Sea Flanker
To assist the new pilot in depth training missions and the wide selection of single missions help to prepare to the campaign where the pilot may choose to fly for the Russian or Ukraine side for one of the fifteen countries that can participate in the campaign. Background info can be looked up with the built-in Encyclopedia. The simulator world covers the area of the western Caucasus mountains from Kuban to Georgia (specifically: Krasnodarsky Krai, Stavropolsky Krai, Republic of Adygea, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Kabardino-Balkar Republic, Republic of Abkhazia, and Georgia). The simulated world consists of over hundred other AI models, on the ground, in the air, and at sea. The AI takes into account searching for ground and airborne threats and prioritisation, reloading time and battle performance based on battle damage, to name a few AI features. (Note that wind and turbulence is simulated and affects the plane as well as ballistic and unguided ammunition.) The AI models the following NATO and Russian aircraft, and equipment:
- A-A weapons
- A-G weapons
- Air defense units
- Armoured vehicles
- Civilian ground vehicles
- ECM systems
- Selection of 50+ aircraft
- Ships
The simulator can be flown in the realistic mode, or in a more arcade style mode. On top of the close to 100 built-in campaigns and single missions, customisation is possible via the Battle Planner, Campaign Editor and Mission Editor. The HUD text of Russian planes is in Cyrillic, but can be switched to English in Easy Avionics mode.
Some differences between Flaming Cliffs and Flaming Cliffs 2:
- This simulator has an improved user interface that is derived from the DCS: Black Shark helicopter simulator.
- Joystick controller profiles can be set up for each individual aircraft, instead of 1 single function assignment.
- The Crimean Peninsula campaign has been replaced by Georgia campaign area.
- The new sound engine improves immersion. It includes speed of sound to reflect delay between visual and audio cues.
- Network compatibility with 'Digital Combat Simulator: Black Shark', which allows for combined play using combat helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft in one virtual combat environment.
