The Yawhg

Moby ID: 64978

Description

The Yawhg is a choose-your-adventure game for two to four players who go about their daily life in the few weeks before the returning of The Yawhg. Players get to train various skills, experience different events and encounters, all in preparation for your life after The Yawhg hits the land. The game offers a randomized story for each gameplay sessions with up to 50 possible endings. The gameplay consists of choices with the environment shown through graphics and text descriptions. Rather than a linear path, choices often have consequences.

A 5 second review for a 5 minute game

The Good
The game's art is fairly pleasant. While not ground-breaking in any way, the art is the only thing that tries to make this game more than some lazy halfhearted attempt at programming. In many ways this is nothing but an art game, since while the visuals may not be necessary for what could have been a text game they are what breathes a semblance of life into the otherwise pointless exercise of playing this game. The game does have its plot twists and amusing moments, and it does provide a large number of endings. From raising a demon to becoming a vampire to rebuilding your town - you could accomplish quite a few different things if you choose a different road to follow. In fact you'll have to accomplish those if you wish to get anything out of this game because it last exactly 5 minutes!

The Bad
It's short! Did that come across?! It's awfully, woefully short. I've played 24 hour "game jam" games that took longer to finish than this one. And at least those didn't cost any money! There is absolutely no excuse for a game this thin. It fails as an RPG because your stats are tested at most seven times throughout the game. It fails as a visual novel because it has no time to establish a real plot or immerse you in its world. It's simply a failure. With no gameplay or any essence of its own it cannot even be called a waste of time because of its pathetic length.

The two stars this game gets are a pity score for the music and pictures. And even that maybe overgenerous on my part.

The Bottom Line
Don't play this game. It has nothing to offer to anyone. If you're still interested go look at screen caps here or anywhere else - you'll literally see the entire game.
