Pathogen

In Pathogen, purpose is to place one's cells on the board, eventually owning an area larger than the opponent's. Boards are rectangular maps, small medium or large, dimensions of which range from 14×12 to 22×19 spaces; with the exception of few early stages, there are obstacles and areas of various kinds and characteristics, as well as neutral cells, lying on maps from the beginning. Game proceeds by turns: each turn, players place one of their cells on a space; a game ends and victory is achieved owning more squares than the opponents when the board has been wholly filled with cells, or when a player has irreversibly gained possession of more than half of the playing area.

There are A B C cells and viruses, the latter being to be placed on an enemy cell, and producing a chain reaction annihilating both enemy and player's cells around there. Cells are capable of being placed on free spaces, same player's cells of lower or equal level (raising the level of these), enemy cells of lower range, turning these into cells of their colour. B and C cells spread respectively A and B cells around them. An A cell over a pre-existent A cell becomes a B cell; likewise, a B cell added to a B cell turns to a C cell. A C cell played on a C cell turns to stone, that makes the space irreversibly possessed. Single player game starts with five tutorial maps, and consists of a serier of levels where player challenges the CPU. Multiplayer is offline only, playable by one to four players (each a human or a bot) on series of small, medium, and large maps; players take their turns by handing one another the same device; teams can be shaped in any way, for instance two or three players versus one. Every level, belong it to single player mode or multiplayer, has a name; levels can be created by an editor which offers all elements used by game developers. On every game mode, it is possible to choose from easy normal and hard artificial intelligence level, limit or not total of turns, undo one or more moves at any moment, view statistics and watch a replay once it's finished. Game soundtrack consists of ambient music.
