Description

Psichodelya is a top-down vertically-scrolling shoot 'em up with gameplay mechanics inspirated by Ikaruga and other older shooters. The player controls a ship through five levels with a boss at the end. There are three ship types with different shooting patterns to choose from. The ship can be moved anywhere on the screen. A first key is used to shoot in short bursts. When held it transforms it a larger, powerful beam, but slows down ship movement. A second key launches a bomb that destroy many enemies at once, but there are only a limited amount available. A third key is used to switch between red and blue bullets. Blue enemies are more vulnerable to red bullets and vice versa. At the same time you are not hit by bullets of the same colour of the equipped colour.

The ship has a limited amount of shields, can pick up power-ups and bombs, and the score can be improved by making chains when many enemies of the same colour are destroyed in succession. There are five difficulty levels and there is a two-player cooperative mode with two ships on a single screen. Enemy patterns are randomized for each session. The mechanics are explained in a non-interactive tutorial.
