Description

The Sims: FreePlay is a free-to-play adaptation of The Sims life simulation series for mobile devices. It is largely based on The Sims 3 and offers more than 50 missions to complete next to temporary, weekly ones. Most of the features of the original game are carried over such as designing a custom Sim, reacting to the emotions to satisfy needs and wishes, doing jobs, decorating a house etc. Unlike the original game all actions take place in real-time with some waiting times for certain actions. The Sims also do not have much autonomy and all actions need to be directed by the player.

By progressing through the game experience is gained to level up, which unlocks additional houses, decorative items and other options such as areas that only become accessible at certain levels. Basic actions are rewarded with the regular Simoleons currency, while other actions such as skipping waiting times or accessing exclusive items require the premium currency called LifeStyle Points. A third currency called Social Points can only be gained by interacting with the cities of neighbours (friends) and social actions. All currencies can be bought for real money as well and next to designing a custom house it is possible to buy pre-built ones. Several Sims can be created at once and they can marry and have children.

Sims can go through six life stages (baby, toddler, preteen, teen, adult and senior) each with their own hobbies. There are several career paths to follow such as becoming an actor, a firefighter, a musician, a politician, a teacher etc. The game is set in a single town with several houses and locations such as a community center, a night club, a park, a restaurant, a school etc. There are several shops as well as buildings tied to specific careers. After the initial release lots of free updates were released that add additional content and activities to the game. There are regularly activities tied to items of various real-life brands based on sponsorship.
