Starting screen. (Accompanied by a voiced welcome, if audio is on) The player character is the little blue sprite in the upper left corner.
A random encounter on the plains; a traveling salesman. He sells Bows&Arrows, Chain mail, a Mace, a Shield, and a Horse. I have too little money this early in the game to buy anything.
Another random lucky event, I find a shield. During these encounters my avatar is hidden, but it is now halfway to the white city.
This is less luck, a random encounter with a goblin. I'm unsure of my weaponry, so I choose to avoid the fight.
Running away affects my reputation, it seems.
I have entered the city at the upper right on the previous maps.
The city offers some alternatives: shopping, healers or priests, sightseeing or hearing some local gossip.
Some advice from the locals; the message varies if you talk to them again.
Greedy priests always wants more donations.
I left the city, and went to the village on the map's lower left. They have other services to offer.
The village blacksmith sells a plow, nice. Maybe there's an untilled patch for me to use somewhere here?
The villagers are having a hard time, it seems. Not the best time to be a farmer, so I'd better go on the adventuring path again. Heading due North to the next map screen.
Another random encounter, a wandering mage offering his services. He can improve my armor for gold. Again, I have not the money he requires for his magic.
A random encounter with another enemy, well this time I'll fight.
I won the fight, and rifle though the corpse's possessions: some money and food. I didn't expect these guys to eat, or buy things for money?
Another random encounter, this is a deranged monster looking like a dinosaur.
The Dino guy was more than my match, and it won't let me surrender. It also blocks my attempt to run away.
I've joined the legions of the dead, and the quest has failed this time. The rainbow egg goes rotten I guess.
If you succeed in surrendering, your attacker takes your money, and leaves.
You can buy, or even find horses to travel faster. But they need food, and can die if you run out.
If you try to buy more food than you can afford, you are scorned by the food vendor, who may be a relative to the Soup Nazi from the Seinfeld TV series - No food for you!
Sometimes your randomly encounter a stream, and gain some health.
